The aim of the conference is to elicit a wide range of academic ideas and perspectives on the portrayal of conflict in British literature and culture from the Anglo-Saxon period to the present day. The conference participants are invited to present papers focusing on the public or private perception of the grandeur, as well as the horrors of war.
As the title suggests, the topics under discussion may vary from the heroic ideal inherent in the Anglo-Saxon epics, through Shakespeare’s histories and the poetry of the Great War as experienced by the combatants to contemporary voices of protest against man’s inhumanity to man.
Proposals for papers and enrolment forms should be sent by e-mail not later than 31 March 2009, and the full electronic version of the text by 1st June 2009 in order to facilitate early publication of the articles accepted by the Conference Committee.

All papers presented at the Conference will be published by the Institute of English, German and Communication Studies of the Koszalin University of Technology (Instytut Neofilologii i Komunikacji Społecznej, Politechniki Koszalińskiej).

The inclusive cost of the Conference covers the conference fee, full board, and the printing of relevant materials. Payment for the Conference should be paid in advance, not later than 15th August 2009, payable to Dworek Osiecki (Osiecki Palace).

Please note that invoices will only be issued for the hotel stay and full board by Dworek Osiecki, and not by Politechnika Koszalińska, either by post on request or on participants’ arrival. The

Conference organisers can only provide participants with a certificate confirming their attendance.

The estimated inclusive fee is 490 PLN (approximately 150 Euro), although this is subject to slight adjustment. Unfortunately, refunds cannot be made available in the case of cancellations or limited participation.
