Hello,
My name is Gerry Luton and I am an ESL instructor at the University of Victoria in Canada. I recently came across your institution's website and I thought that your ESL students and instructors may benefit from a website I have created. The website is entirely free and is designed to help students learn and review the vocabulary contained within the Academic Word List (AWL). The site can be found at: www.academicvocabularyexercises.com
The AWL is a list of 570 words which appear with high frequency in English-language academic texts. The words selected for the AWL are words which occur frequently in a wide range of academic subjects, including the Arts, Commerce, Law and the Sciences. This means that the AWL is useful to all second-language learners who wish to study in an English-speaking institution no matter what their field of study, as well as those who simply wish to attain a high level of English proficiency.
The website I have created consists of 170 different exercises to review the vocabulary, which students can work on in their spare time, as homework or in class. The site also explains what the Academic Word List is exactly and why it is important to learn it. The site is called Vocabulary Exercises for the Academic Word List and, again, the website address is as follows:
www.academicvocabularyexercises.com
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Your sincerely,
Gerry Luton
